What are Decentralized autonomous organizations?
While avoiding the need for human intervention or centralized coordination DAOs are often referred to as “unreliable” systems. The governance of DAOs is community-based while the governance of traditional companies is primarily based on CEOs, boards of directors and activist investors. Decisions are made on the basis of proposals and votes so that everyone in the organization has the right to vote.
The changes that are declared by the rules and logic of the code will fail if someone tries to do something that is not stipulated by the rules and logic, because DAOs are transparent and public because the rules are built into the code and managers are not needed, which eliminates any bureaucratic or hierarchical obstacles.
Bitcoin is generally considered the first fully functioning DAO because it has programmed rules, operates autonomously, and is coordinated through a consensus protocol. In simple terms, the DAO is an organization driven by computer code and programs, thus it can function autonomously without the need for a central authority.
The method of operation is so much spoken about that it is difficult for us to understand what it really means and whether it will ever become viable in the future. While there are many unresolved issues and potential issues related to legality, security, and structure, some analysts and investors believe that this type of organization might eventually come to the fore, perhaps even replacing traditional structures. With the massive adoption of blockchain technology, a new form of business or organization is becoming more and more popular.
When blockchain technologies were invented, the minds behind DAO’s concept were given the tools they needed to turn their ideas into a real project — the DAO was an Internet-based organization committed to automation and decentralization — before we go on it is important to distinguish the DAO from the DAO, one of the first such organizations ever created — a project that ultimately failed and led to a dramatic rift in the Ethereum network.
As stated above, the DAO is a bottom-up decision-making organization. The collective of members owns the organization. DAOs are organized using smart contracts, with members using governance tokens to vote on issues such as fund allocation. A new type of organization is changing it, with a flatter governance structure and a set of rules automatically applied to the blockchain.
A Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) is generally considered to be an organization governed by coded rules such as a computer program, including automated smart contracts based on distributed ledgers such as blockchain, rather than a hierarchical governance structure. The smart contracts used by the DAO automate organizational management and decision making, enhance consensus mechanisms for greater minority stakeholder participation and reduce administrative time and costs of the day-to-day running of the organization.
A Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) or simply DAO is a company or organization whose decisions are made by electronic means using written computer code or through voting by its members. A Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO), sometimes called a Decentralized Autonomous Company (DAC) [a] is an organization represented by rules that are encoded as a transparent computer program controlled by members of the organization and not under the influence of the central government.
A well-known example targeted at venture capital funding is the DAO, which launched in June 2016 with crowdfunding of $ 150 million and almost immediately hacked and spent $ 50 million in cryptocurrency. More complex DAOs can be implemented for a variety of use cases such as token management, decentralized venture funds or social media platforms. The source code is deployed on a smart contract-enabled blockchain like Ethereum, probably always on the public blockchain.
The DAO smart contract code defines the rules for interaction between people; although it is unclear to what extent other control mechanisms could affect or invalidate this code. Since these rules are defined using smart contracts they are implemented independently, regardless of the will of the parties (Lin and al., 2019; Bansal et al., 2019).
Incentive negotiation is the concept that defines the blockchain protocol, and DAO applies similar logic to organization and governance. The DAO smart contract should involve the creation and distribution of some form of intrinsic property, such as local tokens, which can be used by the DAO for voting mechanisms or to encourage certain actions. If the DAO’s token distribution policy and the consensus mechanism defined in its underlying smart contract architecture are well designed, DAO stakeholders will naturally strive for the most beneficial results for the entire DAO network.
In addition to retaining the hope of creating more responsive entities, smart contracts offer organizations new ways to improve internal control over the assets they collect or earn. By relying on blockchain-based smart contracts DAOs appear to reduce the likelihood of opportunistic behavior and self-healing.
These smart contracts are not executed on a centralized server but are instead executed by the network that hosts the code that makes up the smart contract. In the case of DAO, smart contracts can be combined to form a network of coded relationships that provide the rules by which the organization will be governed.
